Look Different

Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. - 1 Peter 2:12

Christians give Christians a bad name. We do and say things that make those who aren’t Christians question if they want to become Christians. Our actions matter and those who don’t believe in Jesus are watching us. When our walk doesn’t match our talk, it can have a detrimental impact on unbelievers. They can be quick to point out our faults and inconsistencies. They are often turned off by Christians whose conduct looks no different than the rest of the world.

Outside of the community of believers it is important we act in a way that gains respect. We don’t have to be perfect. We will still make mistakes. We need to be authentic and embrace our mistakes as a chance to show God’s grace. When we respond to mistakes in a way that is different from the societal norm, it speaks volumes about who we are in Christ.

When we make a mistake and admit it, we look different than the world around us. When we make a mistake and face the consequence head on we show an honorable spirit. When someone wrongs us and we choose forgiveness, we show God’s mercy and grace. The way we serve and love others should make us stand out in the crowd.

Peter is encouraging us to look different than the world around us. When we do, those around us will take note. Because of our good actions they may come to the Lord in the final days.

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
