Building Blocks

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  - 1 Peter 2:4-5

The stone that was rejected was Jesus. He was chosen by God but rejected by God’s people. His rejection doesn’t change the fact that God chose Jesus from the beginning. In His choosing of Jesus, that means He chose you and He chose me.

Like Jesus lived, we too are called to live. As we live we are being built up, transformed. From simply a person, to His temple. As His holy priesthood, we present ourselves as a daily sacrifice for God. We can only do this because of the mercy of God shown through Jesus on the cross.

Through our spiritual disciplines our spiritual house is built up. We are a temple and these activities form us to become more like Christ. As we read scripture, gather in corporate worship, seek silence, pray, share the good news with others, as we show empathy and walk through life’s challenges with others, and seek a simplicity of mind we are being built up.

What spiritual disciplines do you practice? Do you look at them as God building you up?

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
