Transactions

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. - 1 Peter 1:18-19

I don’t usually think of gold and silver as perishable. In fact, gold is one of the most durable elements on the planet. It seems far from perishable. Silver and gold are considered valuable metals. They have been used for currency for thousands of years. In that context, they certainly are a bit more perishable. Look at your bank account. Money comes in and money goes out. You get a bill and the gold you had is now gone as you pay the bill.

This transactional way of living was a reality before Jesus. Commit a sin. Make a sacrifice. Restore yourself to God. Repeat.

The “precious blood of Christ” changed everything. A lamb that was pure and without defect or blemish lays down his life. Once and for all our debt is paid. No longer do we live in a transactional relationship with God. Instead one transaction allows us to experience transformation.

Jesus is inviting each of us to truly live.

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
